The Bahia Palace is not a major historical site like the other monuments that populate Marrakech.

However, the site is renowned for the richness of its architecture. Its construction is recent, from the 19th century, and was inspired by Arab and Andalusian styles. The foundations of the palace appeared in 1880 under the directive of the vizier Sidi Moussa, the head of the Moroccan kingdom.

He wished to build a luxurious residence for the pleasure of one of his companions. He thus offered a palace composed of approximately 160 rooms! This would explain the name of the monument, meaning "palace of the beautiful"... Around the building, visitors can stroll through the courtyards and gardens that entertained its occupants.

A little anecdote: The construction duration of the Bahia Palace (7 years) is the origin of a famous Moroccan expression: "the Bahia is finally finished," used when a matter remains unsolved for a long time!
